For me, knowledge brings comfort. With all the demands that living alone can place on a busy person like myself, it is frequently a challenge to find and use information that can help me in my journey to better health. Like a lot of people in the 21st century, I have come to rely on the Internet as the most prominent source for getting health information.
The Hungry Single is one of those sources. As a resource for single adults living alone who want to eat and live well, we want to help everyone who lands on this site to learn more about eating and feeling better.
To that end, headlines from one of the premier health and science sources on the Web were added to our home page this week. The headlines are from MedicineNet.com.
MedicineNet.com is owned and operated by WebMD.com. It will provide you with easy-to-read, in-depth, authoritative medical information about food, nutrition and healthy living. It is a much better source of credible fact than my gal pals could ever hope to be! And it has useful facts about all aspects of my body and my health.
I have two other regular and reliable resources that that are worth mentioning to you:
The first is NutritionData.com and I love the labels. What do I mean by the labels? Just go to the site and see for yourself. And the Pyramids are pretty cool too!
NutritionData.com is heavy on facts and analysis about common foods. The information on NutritionData.com comes from the USDA's National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference and other sources. In other words, details. I like that about this site. I want information and this site provides it.
Next is thecaloriecounter.com. This fact heavy site is very useful when I want to look up caloric and other information about fresh foods. For example, if I am planning to buy salad ingredients for the week I can go to thecaloriecounter.com and look up “Carrots” or “Lettuce. ” The information appears very quickly and is easy to read.
So while thecaloriecounter.com is not heavy on analysis it is heavy with raw facts and facts about raw food. What’s not to like about that?
How about you? Do you have a favorite source of food and wellness information that you would like to share? Let me hear from you. Write a comment or email me at
