Note from Mona: Before I begin let me implant one word in your mind. Hold this word in your mind you will be open to what follows: MODERATION. Now on to the business at hand …

As I’ve said here before, I try to walk a spiritual path on my journey through this life. Life is rich in joy and bliss, pain and sorrow. How divine! So why do I sometimes find myself hungry, angry, lonely, tired, staring at my laptop 3 AM and eating Blue Bell Groom’s Cake ice cream out of the carton? The answer is painfully obvious. The irony is also painfully obvious.

I am obsessed with maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Heck, the whole purpose of TheHungrySingle.com is to help single adults who live alone to make healthy food choices. How you define  healthy is up to you. I use a broad definition that includes a wide variety of quality food choices. Sometimes the variety leads to conflict. Which brings me to a real guilty pleasure – not to mention comfort in times of trial – ice cream.

I know, I know. The conflict is that ice cream cannot be good for you. Right? “Good” meaning “healthy” because it sure tastes good! How to resolve the conflict? How to at least tamp it down enough so you can enjoy ice cream in moderation? Knowledge is comfort when it comes to comfort food. In other words , learning everything you can about ice cream will help you make the right choice.

Amazingly, there is a lot to know about ice cream. Start with this article from Wikipedia. Then you can move on to this from WebMD.

But wait, there’s more! Take a look at this from MedicineNet.

And, from one of the best sites on the web, here’s a helpful Tip from RealAge.

Now, before you get a Web version of ice cream brain freeze, take a break and watch this take on a Sarah McLachlan beauty from YouTube.

Blue Bell Groom's CakeThis brings me full circle back here at 3 AM with my carton of Blue Bell Groom’s Cake.

There’s that irony again. But there is also irony in the fact my ice cream can soothe the ache and move me along to a sweet, peaceful resolution. It really is divine.
